LEMMINGS

This is more than a mere visual makeover, though the titular rodents look more charming than ever while retaining that iconic shock of green hair. [...] Rather than the awkward business of selecting individual lemmings, the game uses grid-based maps [...]. This allows the game to set up devious environmental puzzles - often with more than one solution - that never feel fiddly to solve.

- iOS Game of the Day Feature Review

Lemmings has probably been one of the most challenging projects in my career. Starting with one of my childhood favorite games, an iconic puzzle game with pixel perfect controls and adapting it to fit small touch screens with a free-to-play model.

Working on this project as its main designer from early prototype stages to it's global launch has been exciting but hard and challenging. I have worked on the core game gameplay, defining the puzzle, the controls and the levels layout as well as on the metagame, establishing its structure and systems, and serviced it through LiveOps for over 3 years.

Achieving a successful free-to-play mobile game while maintaining the essence and feeling of the original Lemmings has been far from easy. The game has been developed in Unity, and its unique play style along with its visuals (and brand legacy) got it to be featured in the App Store and be showcased as "Game of the day". You can learn a bit more about Lemmings and this project in the documentary 'Can you dig it?'.
